Dynamic Quartet kicks off Lulus 15th Season

In May 2018, Lulu brought Gabriola the New Orford string quartet. An ensemble with 10 years together, countless hours of playing, and shared experience. The richness of years of making music together creates cohesiveness, yet allows each artist a voice. Each artist a virtuoso, together they create magic.

This month we have the opportunity to experience a fresh, young quartet at the beginning of their journey. Formed in 2017, London based Echéa string quartet are discovering their love of new music and breathing new life into old masters. In two years they have been Prizewinners of the International Anton Rubinstein Chamber Music Competition (2018) and Finalists in the Royal Overseas-League Music Competition (2019). Recently awarded the role as Fellowship String Quartet for 2019/20 at the Royal Academy of Music.

Touring Canada for the first time. Aliayta Foon-Dancoes, violin, from Vancouver, is excited to share the beauty of the Gulf Islands with Emily Earl, violin, Clara Loeb, viola and Eliza Millett, violoncello who make up the prize-winning group. Their programme features composers Haydn, Bartók and Fanny (Mendelssohn) Hensel. It has been an exciting summer for the quartet from participating in “Evolution of the String Quartet ” at the Banff Centre, to performing as part of the Kessler Academy, mentoring others alongside contemporary music ensemble, the Microcosmos Quartet.
