A talented improvisor and performer, award-winning violinist Meredith Bates is known for her elegant and virtuosic sound.

Award-winning violinist Meredith Bates is known for her elegant and virtuosic sound. Equally well-versed in both acoustic and processed performance, she has spent the past twenty years recording and touring around the world in ensembles such as Pugs & Crows, Gentle Party, Dyad, Joshua Zubot’s String Quintet, Tony Wilson’s Burn Down the Cornfield, Ford Pier’s Strength of Materials, Annie Lou, Alvaro Rojas’ Gran Casa and Music for 22, and Peggy Lee’s Echo Painting.

Calgary-born violinist Parmela Attariwala interweaves life as a performer-creator, academic, and music educator. Parmela trained formally in violin performance at Indiana University and in Bern, Switzerland, and studied ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (UK) and the University of Toronto (Ph.D.). Her creative work explores the liminal space between musical genres, artistic disciplines, and identities.

Andrea Wong is an emerging artist and sound designer based in Vancouver, Canada. Her musical background stems from classical piano and Canadian folk fiddle, and her most recent sound design work specialized in interactive mediums including virtual reality games. She discovered an interest in sound and technology and a love for cross-discipline collaboration co-creating interactive media performances as a programmer with musicians and dancers in Sonic UBC Laptop Sounds and Sensors (SUBCLASS).

Also! Join us for a round table discussion with the artists on Friday, May 26th, 7pm, by donation at the Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre.
