Patricia Ludwick Storyteller and Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, Shakuhatchi

Commissioned originally by CBC Radio, this performance has been refreshed and revised as a conversation with fellow islanders as companions on a winter walk, noting the cycles of nature – a moving meditation to recover one’s balance in the face of loss and to rediscover one’s place in the heart of community.

Patricia Ludwick has worked across Canada as a professional actor, playwright, and writing coach, conducting workshops in a variety of creative fields. Since moving to Gabriola in 1989, she has earned her living as a screenplay consultant, editor and writing instructor, with occasional forays into performance, including improvisational collaborations for Lulu.

Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos lives a life guided by shakuhachi. Simple, complex, intense, deep –  Alcvin’s music is a visceral adventure of the soul, rich in heart and wondrous vibratory realizations. His flute sings to us everywhere the shakuhachi has been: concert halls to caves, castles and cathedrals to campfires, ancient temples to living rooms, mountain summits to deep in the rainforests.
